We're all allowed to have bad days for no reason. Often, there are reasons, but they're subtle and personal, and make no sense to anyone but us. Techniques for getting through these regularly-occurring bad days are a necessity for modern urban living. Some of us shop, some turn to jogging or yoga. I like cold beverages. They're inexpensive, never hurt my knees, and tend not to overstay their welcome.
Today I woke up on the wrong side of the day - not just the bed, the whole day. No reason, just a mood. After slaying enough metaphorical dragons to earn an hour to myself, I headed to Morning Fix to seek a friendly, powerful cold beverage. I asked Erinn for the biggest iced mocha she could make me, and she was happy to oblige, even giving me the choice of white or dark chocolate.
This drink makes everything all better. It's creamy, rich, and well balanced between the roasted and sweetened flavors. I had a straight shot of the Caravan Organic Espresso yesterday, and I recognize some of the familiar flavors in my mixed drink. In fact, the flavor of the espresso lingers on the sides of my tongue. It's a pleasant mild sourness that's a nice contrast to the initial sweetness of the drink. Somehow, that lasting flavor seems to keep my mouth nice and cool, so the refreshment stays when my drink is done.
To a certain extent, we have to relish our bad days. They're certainly inevitable, but they often allow us to face parts of ourselves from which we'd rather shy away. More than that, though, on a bad day they threshold for happiness is often quite low. So this mocha may be the best thing that happens to me today. It was an awesome mocha, and it was totally enough to make my day noticeably brighter.
